On the Fox River in Geneva, Illinois
From the water up
A river-side dining room in Geneva where the menu follows the season and the plates follow the fish. Dinner Wednesday through Sunday, brunch on the weekend.
Built for long dinners
Sixty-two seats, a bar of eight, and a booth that has hosted more birthdays than we can count. The room is dark wood and low light on purpose. Conversation carries, plates arrive when they are ready, and nobody is turning the table.
The kitchen cooks from the water first: shrimp, whitefish, octopus and lobster handled simply, with a short list of pasta and a steak sandwich that has never left the dinner menu. For a birthday or a table of twenty, the River Room is the room to ask about.

What people say on the way out

We came for a birthday and stayed three hours. Nobody hurried us, the ceviche was gone in minutes, and the bartender remembered our names on the second visit.
St. Charles -
The lobster roll is the best thing I have eaten in the western suburbs, and I am not a person who says that lightly.
Geneva -
Brunch in the booth with a bottle of cava. Book it for someone you love.
